What does “stet” mean? Let us tell you! stet is a fancy proofreading notation that means (from the Latin) “let it stand.” When an editor makes a suggestion on a piece of writing, the writer can come back with “stet,” meaning let the original writing stand!

By submitting to Stet, you confirm that what you are sending us is your own original work and that you are entering into an intellectual relationship with our editors. We are not interested in writing produced, shaped, or refined by generative AI.
As editors, we believe that our role is to help you develop your thoughts and writing. We’re not interested in editing AI.
If you find yourself looking for help with thinking about ideas, your structure, or your prose, please consult us and, of course, the creative writers in your world, rather than generative AI.

Founder and Editor-in-Chief
Billy Lombardo is a Nelson Algren Award winner and the founder of Polyphony Lit. He is the author of three books of fiction (The Logic of a Rose: Chicago Stories, The Man with Two Arms, and Morning Will Come), a book of poetry, Meanwhile, Roxy Mourns, and The C.A.P.E. Crusade, Your Guide to a Great College Application Personal Essay. Billy holds an MFA in Fiction from Warren Wilson College and teaches at Trinity HS for Girls and at Northwestern University’s MFA in Creative Writing. He lives in Chicago.
